FarmAssistance Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 24, 2026
This policy describes what data FarmAssistance collects, where it goes, and why — for the mobile app and this website. This website does not currently have accounts or a login — it's for learning about FarmAssistance, not using it. Everything below about accounts, farm data, and ads applies to the mobile app.
The short version
FarmAssistance requires a free account (name, email, password) to use the mobile app, and syncs your farm data to our server so it's available if you reinstall the app or sign in on another device. Your password is never stored or transmitted in plain text — only a one-way bcrypt hash of it. If you invite someone to your farm as a team member, they get access to that farm's full data once they accept. The mobile app also shows ads (Google AdMob) to stay free — see Advertising below.
Account and sync
- Your password is hashed with bcrypt before it's ever written to our database — we cannot see or recover your actual password.
- Your farm data — farms, fields, crops, tasks, livestock, health/production records, financial transactions, inventory, equipment, maintenance logs, and documents — is synced to our server, tied to your account, so it's available on any device you log into.
- Where this lives: our application server runs on Render; the database runs on Neon (managed PostgreSQL).
Team members
FarmAssistance lets you invite other people to your farm by email, with a role (e.g. manager, worker). Once someone accepts — by registering or logging in with the matching email — they can see and edit that farm's data. This is a real, deliberate data-sharing decision you make each time you invite someone.
Third-party data sources
FarmAssistance looks up real pesticide/product authorization and weather/satellite data from official government and scientific sources — ONSSA (Morocco), EPA (United States), Health Canada PMRA, ANSES E-Phy (France), Ctgb (Netherlands), MAPA Agrofit (Brazil), APVMA (Australia), NASA POWER, SILO (Australia), and the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (Sentinel-2 satellite imagery for field vegetation health). None of these lookups include your name, email, or account information — at most, a field's coordinates or a search term.
Advertising
The FarmAssistance mobile app shows ads through Google AdMob to stay free. Google (and its advertising partners) may collect device/advertising identifiers and general device information to select and measure ads — governed by Google's own Privacy Policy. This is separate from your farm data — the ad SDK never sees anything you enter into the app.
- On iOS, the app shows an App Tracking Transparency prompt asking whether FarmAssistance can use your device's advertising identifier. Declining is fully supported — you'll still see ads, just less targeted ones.
- Consent (GDPR/UK, and elsewhere): the app uses Google's User Messaging Platform to show a consent form where required by law. You can change this choice at any time from Settings → Ad privacy choices in the app.
- This website does not show ads.
Website analytics
This website (not the mobile app) uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they use — page views, general device/browser information, and approximate location. It does not see anything you enter into an account (name, email, farm data) unless you're on a page that happens to include it in the URL, which none of ours do. Governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.
Permissions the mobile app requests
- Camera / Photo library — to attach photos to records you create.
- Location — to map your farm/fields and fetch weather data for that location.
- Notifications — for local reminders, scheduled entirely on your device.
- Advertising ID (Android) — used by Google AdMob as described above.
Account deletion
You can permanently delete your account and all of its data at any time from the mobile app's Settings → Edit profile → Delete account. This removes your account and every farm you own, immediately and irreversibly.
Children's privacy
FarmAssistance is a farm-management tool intended for adult farm operators and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
Changes will be reflected here with an updated "Last updated" date, and in the app's own release notes for any change that affects what data the app touches.
